Bone Remodeling and Healing

چکیده
To fulfill adequately their functions of support, sustentation and protection for the internal organs and guarantee blood calcium homeostasis, bone tissue is in constant remodeling. Alveolar bone, the primary support structure for teeth, is particularly subjected to continuous and fast remodeling associated with tooth eruption and positional adaptations, as well as with the functional demands of mastication (1). The remodeling cycle comprises resorption of bone matrix, under osteoclasts responsibility, followed by formation and mineralization of a new matrix, in charge of osteoblasts. A complete cell differentiation, in addition to an appropriate functional activity, depends on intercellular communication between bone-forming and boneresorbing cells. The osteoblasts control degradation of bone matrix by producing cytokines stimulatory of osteoclasts precursors (2,3). Healing the Bone
Healing of the bone is different with the other part of the body. Fracture healing is actually a bone regeneration with no scar tissues, where as in wound healing, injured tissue is replaced by connective tissue which became a scar, Traditionally fracture healing is divided in to 4 stages: 1) Stage of inflammation; 2) Stage of soft callus; 3) Stage of hard callus and 4) Stage of remodeling. In...
متن کاملTGF-ß1 Latency Associated Peptide Promotes Remodeling of Healing Cutaneous Wounds in the Rat
Background: The process of wound healing involves integrated events including inflammation, granulation tissue formation, matrix deposition and remodeling. Growth factors play a key role in the process. Among them transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1) is known to accelerate tissue repair by promoting the synthesis and deposition of extracellular matrix proteins. However, persistence or overact...
متن کاملSimvastatin combined with bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs) improve burn wound healing by ameliorating angiogenesis through SDF-1α/CXCR4 pathway
Objective(s): Chemokines are wound mediators that promote angiogenesis during wound healing. We hypothesized that Simvastatin in combination with the bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs) improve burn wound healing by ameliorating angiogenesis via SDF-1α/CXCR4 pathway.Materials and Methods: Under general anesthesia, deep partial-...
متن کاملRole of Matrix Metalloproteinase 13 in Both Endochondral and Intramembranous Ossification during Skeletal Regeneration
Extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling is important during bone development and repair. Because matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP13, collagenase-3) plays a role in long bone development, we have examined its role during adult skeletal repair. In this study we find that MMP13 is expressed by hypertrophic chondrocytes and osteoblasts in the fracture callus. We demonstrate that MMP13 is required for...
متن کاملRemodeling of fracture callus in mice is consistent with mechanical loading and bone remodeling theory.
During the remodeling phase of fracture healing in mice, the callus gradually transforms into a double cortex, which thereafter merges into one cortex. In large animals, a double cortex normally does not form. We investigated whether these patterns of remodeling of the fracture callus in mice can be explained by mechanical loading. Morphologies of fractures after 21, 28, and 42 days of healing ...
متن کاملVitamin E and the Healing of Bone Fracture: The Current State of Evidence
Background. The effect of vitamin E on health-related conditions has been extensively researched, with varied results. However, to date, there was no published review of the effect of vitamin E on bone fracture healing. Purpose. This paper systematically audited past studies of the effect of vitamin E on bone fracture healing. Methods. Related articles were identified from Medline, CINAHL, and ...
